The town of Saint Pierre was a lovely on, previously the capital of Martinique it was destroyed by the eruption of the neighboring volcano of Mont Pele in 1902 killing all but 3 of the towns 30,000 residents. One of the survivors was a man in solitary confinement in the jail and it took 3 days before he was rescued!
Now it is a small town half built back up, half still ruined. But with gorgeous scenery and a lovely back drop to picture post card sunsets.
I did not do too much in this town except catch up with emails whilst drinking coffee in a lovely little delicatessen cafe, very much dedicated to the city of Strasbourg, because my cold was starting to kick in and that there was not a huge amount to do. Although I did walk through town with my camera one day and make it to the top of the toen the next day where the old fortifications stood, although I did not have any device to take pictures with me.
